Could the Oxford Conservation Volunteers work for you?

The Oxford Conservation Volunteers is voluntary organisation that has been carrying out practical work conserving the wildlife and traditional landscape of the Oxford area since 1977.  The group organises work parties every weekend and undertakes a wide variety of nature conservation work.

We work for a number of clients concerned with conserving the natural environment, such as Oxford Preservation Trust, BBONT (Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust), and Oxford City Council.  We are one of the many such groups affiliated to the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BTCV).  Oxford Conservation Volunteers is a registered charity.

Each Sunday's task is led by an experienced volunteer, who is responsible for liaising with the client and ensuring that the work is completed to the required standard.  The task leader also ensures that volunteers understand the purpose of the task and how to work together safely.

The type of work undertaken may depend on the season with most construction tasks being planned for the summer and most clearance tasks occurring in winter:

Summer:

Winter:

·fence construction (post and rail, post and wire etc)

·footpath laying

·boardwalk construction

·dam / bridge construction

·grassland clearance

·scrub clearance

 ·scrub clearance

·hedgelaying

·coppicing / pollarding

· tree / hedge planting

·pond clearance

The cost of tasks, and the amount of work completed, varies according to the number of volunteers that are working and the distance of the site from Oxford.  We are not able to guarantee numbers, but normally there are between 5-10 volunteers per task.
